| System Status...
Our recent hardware problems seem to be corrected and the
system is working at a normal operational level. We have
isolated and addressed a few problems in the password
changing scripts as well as one of our software distribution
scripts.
Please email us if you notice anything strange.

| New Hard Drive
The new hard disk drive is in and we didn't need to reboot at
all. Let's hope this is the end of our storage problems on
the new server.
Again, sorry to all who were disrupted during this mornings
system crash. |

Unfortunately, the SCSI Disk Controller Card might have been
the beginning of a different problem. It appears that the RAID5
volume that stores all the user-homes on nature contains a
failing hard drive.
Luckily, RAID5 storage devices are "fail-safe," which means NO
data can be lost unless two or more of the disk drives
fail (and even then we have a very good chance of recovering the
lost data).
What this means in the near term is that we will be replacing
the failed disk. I will inform everyone when the downtime is
going to take place. Also, with the new hardware we are now
running on, it might not be necessary to shutdown at all.
Sorry for these inconveniences!

The new hardware is in! It looks like that was indeed the
problem, since we haven't experienced any problems yet.
Check back here for more updates. |

Nature is experiencing some hardware difficulties. It appears
that one of the SCSI Hard Disk controller cards is about to
fail.
This was the reason for the two recent shutdowns that occurred
without notice. Hopefully everything will be normal after the
hardware is replaced. This will be happening at around 5PM
today.
Until then, BE CAREFUL with your files!. Save your work
often, for another hardware failure on the bad SCSI card could
occur at any time. |

The new server went up at 7:05 PM today! We will be making
adjustments to tune the performance of the new hardware
continuously, so look for other announcements soon. |
